| Hello! |
[15 Feb 2011|10:45am] |
Hi everyone!
With the introduction of Ravelry, I think the purpose of this community is now redundant. I noticed the last post here was made on October 2009. It's probably safe to say that knit swapping needs are being met in other places.
If the response to the post is underwhelming, I'll refer users to ravelry and delete this community.
Please feel free to comment if you would like me to keep this community intact. I won't do anything until March 1st.
Thanks everyone! Stella

| ISO KP Stroll/Essential |
[29 Oct 2009|09:28am] |
Inspired by darthfox and a fair bit of insanity on my part, I've determined that I'm insane enough to want to knit Doctor Who inspired socks, specifically striped socks a là the Fourth Doctor's scarf. The problem I'm faced with is not having all of the colors I need to do so and having made a pact not to buy yarn until the end of the year.
I'm looking for 1 ball each of Knit Picks Essential/Stroll in the following colors:
Buckskin Burgundy or Firecracker Heather African Violet or Duchess Heather Ash or Basalt Heather Sarge Cocoa or Merlot Heather Gold Kettle Dyed
Alternatively, I'd be happy with virtually any superwash fingering weight wool/wool blend in colors that roughly correspond to the KP colorways or a $35 KP gift certificate.
( What I've Got To Trade under the cut )
I'm located in the US and would prefer not to ship internationally (the cost rather defeats the purpose "no yarn buying" pact, unfortunately). I'd also like to keep trade values roughly even, though I use the term 'even' rather loosely. Thanks so much for reading!

| yarn, books and magazines |
[11 Oct 2009|11:53am] |
I'm cleaning up my stash and have a few things to pass on. I'm looking for anything organic, Addi Turbos, books, knitting looms and little weaving looms for kids, or make an offer of something else. Also into spinning and felting and dyeing, so stuff relating to those things are good too.

| Size 11 16" Bamboo Circs |
[13 Aug 2009|09:55pm] |
While looking for some needles today I found that I have 3 pairs of Clover Bamboo Size 11 (8mm) 16" circulars. Because apparently I need to be knitting a lot of bulky hats all the time!
Anyway, I'm looking to swap two of the pairs for ... other needles. I found that I really like the susan bates "quicksilver" needles, so I'm building a collection of those - particularly US 7s (4.5 mm), 24 inches; and 13s in a long size (29-36). I'm also a big fan of the knit picks needles for magic looping socks, and I can never find a 36 inch 2.0 - 2.5 mm when I need one!
Happy knitting!

| Alice Starmore "Sweaters for Men" |
[04 Aug 2009|11:51am] |
I have a near-new first printing of Sweaters for Men looking for a new home: Dust jacket is in excellent condition, hard cover also excellent; sewn binding with tight pages, no marks, no dings, folds, tears or creases, book cover corners are sharp and unsquashed.
For purposes of valuing trades I checked Alibris where this book is listed at between $48 and $90 USD.
Tasty offerings might include unspun Icelandic in a quantity sufficient for a sweater or a copy of Sharon Miller's "The Lerwick Shawl"; both are available from Schoolhouse Press.
I would be willing to negotiate for credit at SHP, at Elann or at WEBS.
I could be swayed by other things as well: high quality wool or silk laceweight yarns, especially J&S 2-ply laceweight in quantity; luxury spinning fibers (but NOT angora!!!); #6 clear foiled beads; Addi or rosewood circular needles; vintage Pyrex in a handful of patterns.
Things I will not consider: Knitpicks yarn/credit; cotton/blend yarns or sliver (I hate working with cotton); sock yarn; synthetics/blends (see cotton).
Non-smoking, cat-infested household. I'll use cheap shipping, will expect you to do the same :D
Interested?

| Long Shot - I need pale green Reynolds Mandalay |
[26 May 2009|04:31pm] |
I am knitting a vest in lettuce green Reynolds Mandalay and I am afraid I will run out of yarn a little bit before I finish. I bought the yarn on sale locally a few years ago without a project in mind, then recently decided it would make a good vest for my dad. Now I think I won't have enough and the store does not carry the yarn anymore.
Does anyone have a little extra Reynolds Mandalay in lettuce green or leaf fern green (which I could throw in as a contrasting color)? If you can find some for me I will find something you want in return to trade.

| Need black Cotton-Ease |
[24 May 2009|06:29pm] |
Does anyone out there happen to have a bit of black cotton-ease they could spare? I can find charcoal, which is a dark gray, but not a true black. I think it's called "licorice" by Lion Brand. If it's just a partial ball, that's fine, as I really only need about five yards, enough to put a few details on a fair isle sweater. I have other colors I'd be happy to trade full balls of, or other yarns if need be.
Thank you!

| Stitch1Knit1.com - do not buy |
[10 May 2009|04:43pm] |
Don't give stitch1knit.com your money. Just don't.
From my email to their customer service department, who have finally written to me 6 weeks after I gave them money, and who have still not responded to my earlier complaint:
So, let me get this straight for the knitting communities I'm going to be telling about your service:
The item you did manage to send me wasn't the same colour as the picture, and when I complained about that I got no response at all or any information about how to return it
AND
It has taken you 6 weeks to tell me the other item I ordered is out of stock despite the fact that when I ordered it your website said it was in stock.
It's a good thing I decided to get my materials elsewhere, because the deadline for the commission I was working on was last weekend.
Thank God for http://www.purplelindacrafts.co.uk/

| knitpicks swish worsted swap |
[20 Apr 2009|04:53pm] |
Hi Folks, One more set of things I'd like to swap.
I have 7 unused, still in their bag skeins of knitpicks swish superwash worsted in "capri", a discontinued lovely aqua color.
I am looking for other colors of swish superwash so that I can make a bunch of multicolored squares.
So, I am hoping to trade skein for skein in any of these colorways: Sunshine Dark Navy Fired Brick Allspice Lawn Wisteria
If you are looking to swap these or have any other colors of swish that you think would go with my multicolored scheme, let me know.

| De-Stash |
[13 Apr 2009|10:31pm] |
I have too much yarn I am never going to use. On top of that, I have a small house with limited storage. I am hoping to rectify this by swapping a decent amount of varying sizes of yarn (lace, sock, worsted, bulky, specialty, I got it all.) This would be a good swap for someone who is new to knitting and wants to try a bit of everything and see what they like.
What I'd really like is to find someone who is willing to take it all.
I am really not looking for much in return for it at all. I like to knit dishcloths/washcloths in sugar'n'cream and afghan blocks in swish superwash from 101 knitted blocks as "pick up projects". I also quilt, so if you'd like to trade some yarn stash for some quilt fabric stash, let me know. There is also the ubiquitous gift certificate option. Knitpicks would be fine, or purl soho, if they do that sort of thing.
Yarn I Don't Want:
- 1 hank knitpicks gossamer, caribbean
- 1 ball of sock yarn, don't remember the name. Purples and whites and a bit of tan. Should make 2 socks, according to the lady who sold it to me at the knit festival. - 1 skein plus about half a skein plymoth encore, color 0208 (white) - 7 skeins wool-ease worsted, rose heather, one knitted and frogged
- 1 skein "pittsburgh worsted" acrylic wool blend, camo colored, no ball band
- most of a skein of knitpicks shamrock, macnamara (teal withwhite/light teal)
- 1 skein Paton's Soy Wool Stripes, natural geranium (little teeny bit from another skein that I will toss in)
- 4 balls andean alpaca regal bulky in color 422, another 1-2 balls worth in off white
- 2 balls plymouth eros glitz, color 109 (black and silver ladder yarn)
- 1 feltable grab bag, pinks and tans (6 balls) - 1 ball plymouth dazzlelash, color 101 (hot pink with some glitz, bought it to knit with some of the pinks above to felt and get those funky fuzzy stripes in a bag) - 1 ball plymouth firenze, color 432 (dark pink, to go with dazzlelash and feltable pinks above)
- 1 set 7 inch clover dpns, size 2
Also, a few blocks I knitted from the reynolds alpaca, if you're interested in that for any reason, I can throw them in.
ETA: some things claimed. Some things still up for grabs. Thanks folks!

In trade, I'd be especially interested in a nostepinne, spinning fiber, drop spindles, or books about drop spinning. I'm also in the market for a shawl pin and some row counters. I'm trying to cut back on yarn, but will happily consider offers of yarn. I'd be happy to trade some of these things for, say, easter candy or other non-knit related items. :) Thanks!

I have a BUNCH of Lopi Country yarn that I just have no use for (it was a gift). I live in California and don't go skiing or anything, so super warm sweaters/coats are really not a necessity.
If you're on Ravelry, they're here in my stash: Colourway 901: Reddish-Brown (6 skeins for 660 yards) and Colourway 9: Brown (9 skeins for 981 yards) Both sets are all the same dyelot within the colourway.
I'd be happy to trade for sock yarn, worsted weight felting yarn, any weight (up to bulky) cashmere/silk yarns/alpaca, or any hand-dyed yarns that are not super-bulky. Or we could work out a Knit Picks purchase too ... I've seen that done before here I think.
If you're interested, let me know what you have and we can work out a trade that's amicable! You can comment here or email me at hockeyelf (at) gmail

| Seeking plymouth encore |
[15 Feb 2009|10:35am] |
Hi! I'm looking for 4-5 skeins of plymouth encore (worsted) in a purple/lavender colorway. I'm not picky about what kind of purple, as long as all the skeins are the same color.
For trade, I've got:
--6 (possibly 7) skeins of Knitpicks Cadena in Leaf --2 skeins Dale of Norway Baby Ull in Cherry --1 skein Elizabeth Lavold Silky Wool in Moss -- this has been partially knit and frogged. It's the recommended yarn for knitty's branching out (I made one with another skein, and love it) --Craft magazine, issue 9, the green issue. This is BRAND new, it's still in the plastic it was mailed in. (I received duplicate issues.)
Thanks!!

[07 Feb 2009|12:30am] |
I saw this once in a store in North Carolina, but haven't seen it since.
Thought I would give it a try here.
Unfortunately all I have to swap is Sweater Design in Plain English. Or I can buy it from you.

EDIT: I now remember the town was Greensboro, NC - a nice little store with great yarn...
